.SI Domain: The Global Rise of the Super Intelligence Era

From Slovenia’s country code to a global opportunity
For decades the domain market has been dominated by .com, while technology companies have increasingly embraced .ai as the digital identity of Artificial Intelligence. 2026 brought a remarkable new development: .si.
Originally the country-code top-level domain of Slovenia, .si has suddenly become associated with a completely different global concept: SI = Super Intelligence. The shift began after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly proposed using “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”, and it accelerated sharply once the White House formally adopted the term. The result has been one of the most extraordinary registration surges ever seen for a country-code domain, and it is no longer only a story about Slovenia. It has become a worldwide domain-market phenomenon.
The Trump effect: AI becomes SI
On September 22, 2026, President Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that the United States would refer to Artificial Intelligence as Super Intelligence, abbreviated SI. The statement instantly linked the acronym SI to Slovenia’s .si domain.
Netcraft found that .si registrations actually overtook .ai registrations during the 25 hours after the UN announcement. That was the moment the domain industry began asking whether .si could become the next major technology domain.
The White House makes SI official
On September 29, President Trump signed Executive Order 14434, “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.” It directs U.S. executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents and other executive-branch materials.
This is an important milestone. SI is no longer a phrase used only by domain investors or technology commentators. It is official terminology of the U.S. executive branch.
SI.gov: the new U.S. government identity
One of the most significant developments is the emergence of SI.gov as the U.S. government’s Super Intelligence identity, presenting the country as being in a global race for Super Intelligence. For the domain industry the parallel is obvious: AI → SI, and AI.gov → SI.gov.
That gives the two-letter abbreviation an official digital identity at the federal level. For .si investors it matters more than a change in wording, because it shows SI can stand on its own as a technology brand.
Elon Musk joins the SI movement
The private sector has responded too. Elon Musk announced that SpaceX’s artificial-intelligence unit, SpaceXAI, would be renamed SpaceXSI, as Reuters reported on October 4, 2026. That completes a striking sequence: President Trump → Super Intelligence; the U.S. government → SI; SI.gov; and SpaceX → SpaceXSI.
There is an important distinction. SpaceX is not moving its main website to a .si domain. The significance is the adoption of SI as a technology brand, not a migration to the extension.
The global .si registration explosion
The strongest evidence for the .si story is not the branding. It is the data. At the time of writing, Register.si reports:
- 447,812 total .si domains
- 46,066 new .si domains in the last month
- 2,239 new domains in the last 24 hours
- 103 registrars
In August 2026 roughly 3,515 .si domains were registered. In September that jumped to about 46,066, an increase of roughly 1,211% month over month on those figures. Registry SI has described September’s increase as about 2,199%, depending on the baseline and method. The precise percentage matters less than the scale of the acceleration: .si has entered an entirely different level of global attention.
The growth continued after September
Netcraft’s October analysis found that after the September 29 executive order, daily .si registrations more than doubled compared with the period between the UN speech and the order. Register.si data cited by Netcraft showed:
- About 198,535 .si domains around September 23
- More than 21% growth in only eight days
- About 13 times as many September registrations as August
- Daily registrations rising from 4,794 to 13,603 over the period examined
So the surge was not a one-day reaction to a speech. The market kept registering .si domains after the executive order.
Worldwide buyers: America is not alone
Hostinger analysed 34,582 .si domains registered by its customers between September 23 and October 7. More than 90% of them were registered from September 30 onward, after the executive order. The leading countries were:
| Country | .si registrations |
|---|---|
| United States | 8,917 |
| India | 7,770 |
| Morocco | 1,674 |
| United Kingdom | 1,321 |
| UAE | 1,200 |
| Canada | 1,186 |
The U.S. and India alone account for nearly half of Hostinger’s .si registrations in that period. The .si phenomenon is not confined to Slovenia. It is increasingly international.
India emerges as a major .si market
With 7,770 registrations from Indian customers, India was the second-largest market in Hostinger’s dataset, and other reporting has also shown India to be exceptionally active in the .si rush. That matters because India has one of the world’s largest technology, startup and software ecosystems. If Indian startups adopt .si for Super Intelligence, AI agents, robotics, fintech, software and advanced computing, the extension could build a substantial international user base.
Buyers are targeting short, powerful words
The market is not registering only obvious names containing “AI” or “Super Intelligence”. Buyers are also going after:
- Short dictionary words
- Technology, software and robotics terms
- Finance and business keywords
- Generic commercial words
- Brandable two-word combinations
TechRadar reported that explicitly AI-themed names were only a small share of registrations, while short and technology-related names drew strong interest. That suggests some investors are betting on SI as a broader technology namespace, not just on the phrase “Super Intelligence”.
.si vs .ai: the new technology domain debate
| .ai | .si |
|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence | Super Intelligence |
| Mature technology identity | Emerging technology identity |
| Strong global adoption | Rapid international growth |
| Established aftermarket | Developing aftermarket |
| Widely recognized | Increasingly recognized |
| Anguilla ccTLD | Slovenia ccTLD |
.ai still has a massive first-mover advantage, and it would be irresponsible to claim that .si has replaced it. It hasn’t. The more interesting possibility is that the two develop different meanings: .ai for Artificial Intelligence and .si for Super Intelligence. If that distinction sticks, .si could establish its own category rather than becoming a mere alternative.
The metric that matters: end-user adoption
There is an important caution behind the numbers. A large share of recent registrations appear to be speculative. Netcraft found that more than half of certain .si domains registered during the early surge were listed for sale on Dynadot’s aftermarket. Registration counts alone cannot establish long-term value. The real tests are:
- Will companies actually build .si websites?
- Will startups launch on .si?
- Will technology companies use .si for their brands?
- Will consumers recognize .si as a technology extension?
- Will major companies acquire premium .si names?
The answers will decide whether this boom becomes a lasting transformation.
Why the .si opportunity is different
.si has three narratives running at once, which most domain trends never get:
- Country identity: it is Slovenia’s established ccTLD.
- Technology identity: SI = Super Intelligence.
- Government identity: the U.S. government has officially adopted SI terminology and operates the SI.gov identity.
Together they give .si an unusual branding opportunity.
The AI → SI transition
The evolution could look like this:
- First generation, AI: Artificial Intelligence.
- Second generation, Generative AI: large language models, image generation, AI agents and automation.
- Emerging generation, SI: Super Intelligence, with advanced reasoning, autonomous systems, robotics, scientific discovery and increasingly capable systems.
That gives .si a story beyond copying .ai: it can position itself as the domain of the next generation of intelligence technology.
What could become valuable?
If the Super Intelligence narrative continues, the strongest .si names could include:
- Technology: Quantum.si Robot.si Neural.si Compute.si Cloud.si Code.si
- Finance: Bank.si Finance.si Credit.si Capital.si Market.si
- Business: Global.si Business.si Enterprise.si Digital.si
- Intelligence: Intelligence.si Super.si Cognitive.si Agent.si Autonomous.si
The principle is simple: short + meaningful + commercially useful = strongest long-term potential.
A global story, not just a Slovenian one
Perhaps the most fascinating part of the boom is that Slovenia isn’t driving it. The trigger came from the United States, the largest buyers include the U.S. and India, and the terminology is being discussed worldwide. That is exactly what happened with .ai: Anguilla owns the ccTLD, but the global market turned it into the identity of Artificial Intelligence. Could Slovenia see the same? The possibility now deserves serious consideration.
Could .si become the next .ai?
Nobody can predict that with certainty. .ai spent years building enormous brand equity. But .si now has something few extensions ever receive: a global technology narrative almost overnight. Trump’s UN speech led to SI terminology, then the executive order, U.S. government adoption and SI.gov, then SpaceXAI becoming SpaceXSI, a worldwide registration surge led by the U.S. and India, and hundreds of thousands of .si domains. None of that guarantees success, but it has created a genuine market experiment.
Conclusion: the Super Intelligence domain era has begun
.si began as the internet identity of Slovenia. In 2026 the two letters acquired a second global meaning: Super Intelligence. The White House adopted the term, the U.S. government created the SI identity, Elon Musk moved from SpaceXAI toward SpaceXSI, and domain investors worldwide began buying .si.
With 447,812 registered .si domains and tens of thousands more arriving, the extension has moved far beyond a small national market. The question is no longer why people are registering .si domains. It is what happens if SI becomes the accepted name for the next generation of intelligence technology. If it does, .si could follow the path of .ai from country code to globally recognized technology namespace, and 2026 may be remembered as the year .si entered the global technology conversation.
Registration figures are from Register.si, Netcraft and Hostinger as reported in October 2026 and will keep changing. Domain names listed as examples are illustrative and may be owned by third parties.
